Family/Group Holiday Courses

These one week courses are aimed at families and groups looking to spend a week together on an outdoor activity holiday. The flying activity will be much less intense with plenty of time to enjoy the company of your group. Some members of your group may be more interested in the flying activity than others, so we have set our flying targets for the group as a whole. You will decide amongst yourselves whether the flying is to be equally divided or whether some members will do more flying than others.

These courses are residential with on site accommodation in our basic but comfortable clubhouse with on site bar and restaurant. The course fee includes full board from Sunday evening to Saturday breakfast, comprising glider pilot's breakfast, soup or sandwich lunch and two course evening meal. Additional food (or cooked breakfast upgrade) may be purchased at competitive prices.

The flying part of the course is based upon four or five students sharing a dedicated instructor and glider. The target for each day is for the group to achieve 10 winch launched soaring flights of 20 mins each or 16 winch launched circuits and landings (around 6 minutes each). Under certain circumstances, aerotows may be offered in order to help students make best use of poor weather. The difference in launch cost will be charged as an extra to the course.

If the weather prevents flying for part of the day, some time may be spent in the briefing room working on gliding theory. Alternatively, if the weather is set to be poor, the course will disband for the day to allow students to explore other local facilities such as fishing, clay pigeon shooting, go karting, swimming or hill walking. If the weather during the week results in less than 80% of the target amount of flying, a refund cheque will be posted after the course.

The course fee includes 3 months trial membership, log book and Elementary Gliding text book for each course member. Please consult our tariff page for a full list of our charges.

* Under current legislation you need to be at least 14 years of age to fly solo. It is probably not worthwhile learning to fly until you are about 13 years old so that you will not get to solo level too much before you can legally fly. If you are under the age of 18 you will need your parent's permission.
